Iran’s balancing strategy in top security advisor’s regional trips

Tehran, IRNA – Iranian secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani pursues the incumbent administration’s good neighborliness policy of removing obstacles in the way of expanding ties with regional nations particularly with Saudi Arabia, which paves the way for de-escalation and mutual understanding.

Friday March 10 is considered as an important day, when Saudi Arabia and Iran signed an agreement to restore their diplomatic relationship, which was severed since 2016. The significant breakthrough happened in Beijing, because China played a key role in brokering the restoration of ties. Before China, Iraq hosted some negotiations between Saudi and Iranian officials in Baghdad.

Therefore, both Saudi Arabia and Iran agreed upon reopening their embassies in Tehran and Riyadh, decreasing tensions, returning to the previous level of neighborliness policy and restoring economic cooperation.

The agreement has had positive domino effect, when other states have called for expansion of ties with Iran. Many governments in the region and throughout the world welcome the accord.

Vice Admiral Shamkhani started visiting regional capitals, which indicates good pace of neighborliness diplomacy of the Raisi administration. Governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) Mohammadreza Farzin, heading a high-ranking economic delegation, visited the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which shows the Islamic Republic is seeking to reduce economic woes by the use of regional capacities; so, the UEA is one of the biggest trade partners of Iran that can help Tehran lower foreign pressures.

Moreover, there are some ill-wishers, who are angry about Abdu Dhabi-Tehran ties such as the Tel Aviv regime.

The restoration of ties with Saudi Arabia and the consolidation of relations with other neighboring states indicate that Iran looks at Asia and the East with the aim of getting rid of paying heed to the US and Europe.

The diplomacy of President Ebrahim Raisi’s administration is based on pursing Iran’s national interests in any country through rational attitude to regional states and de-escalation in the West Asia region, which will be against the interests of the Zionist regime.
